Canadian study reveals how to design lasting event impact
Updated: 7 days ago
Destination Canada, MEET4IMPACT and GainingEdge reveal the mechanisms that turn an event into a chain of lasting change.
Destination Canada has released the findings of its Business Events Legacy & Impact Study. Conducted over three years, the research examined 15 events across six strategic sectors to understand the value they create after delegates return home.
Developed with MEET4IMPACT and GainingEdge, the study looks beyond tourism and economic returns at eight forms of capital: social, intellectual, policy, financial, human, cultural, natural and built. MEET4IMPACT Co-Founder and CEO Geneviève Leclerc served as chief research designer.
The findings show that impact unfolds as a chain reaction. The study identifies 18 impact accelerators, including government participation, destination organisation involvement, knowledge transfer, community engagement and inclusion.
The central message is clear: lasting legacy must be designed from the outset, supported by local partners and sustained over time. The findings offer associations and destinations worldwide a framework for planning, measuring and amplifying event impact.
