At ICC Wales, VisitBritain’s second association conference showed how impact and sustainability can strengthen bids and local event value.

VisitBritain’s second association-events conference, held at ICC Wales from February 11 to 13, 2025, placed impact and sustainability at the centre of the discussion. Participants explored how these dimensions can be integrated into strategy, bidding and congress delivery.

The programme presented VisitBritain’s BE Impactful framework, developed with MEET4IMPACT through an 18-month impact and sustainability partnership alongside GDS-Movement. The approach helps destinations connect events with local strengths, universities, research clusters and key opinion leaders.

The framework encourages destinations to consider multiple forms of value, social, intellectual, policy, human, cultural, natural, financial and built, rather than limiting success to delegate numbers or room nights. This broader perspective supports bids that are more relevant to associations and host communities.

The gathering confirmed that impact should be considered at every stage: before the event to define intent, during it to activate partnerships, and afterwards to track change. This discipline can turn a bid promise into demonstrable results.
