VISITFLANDERS impact framework supports an award-winning inclusive congress
February 5, 2025
The EACD 2024 congress in Bruges used a theory of change to expand access to sport, culture and technology for people with childhood-onset disabilities.
The Iceberg highlights the application of the VISITFLANDERS Impact Framework and Methodology to the 36th annual meeting of the European Academy of Childhood-onset Disability, held in Bruges in 2024. The work was developed through an impact team involving EACD, VISITFLANDERS and MEET4IMPACT, among others.
Using a theory of change, the partners defined intentions related to accessibility, research and technology. The EACD+ programme then opened the congress to a wider public through inclusive activities, including a sports festival, a concert and experiences featuring assistive technology.
The project helped EACD win the 2024 ICCA and BestCities Global Alliance Incredible Impacts Award, which included a US$20,000 grant. The funding is intended to expand the programme to future destinations and establish a permanent impact task force.
The recognition demonstrates the strength of a framework that connects an association’s mission, local priorities and practical action. By planning impact with the people concerned, the congress became a catalyst for awareness, inclusion and lasting change.
